Garrett’s Response to Love Dare #4

As Luis said, this love dare did not seem to be too taxing. Misa usually calls me at work, but I enjoyed calling her to see how her day was going or just to say hi. However, I had to go into work on Saturday and Sanctus Real’s “Lead Me” was playing on the Fish–we had initially heard “Lead Me” at Harvest Crusade this year when the lead singer explained the background behind the song. On this particular day, the lyrics resonated with me:

Sanctus Real – “Lead Me”

I look around and see my wonderful life
Almost perfect from the outside
In picture frames I see my beautiful wife
Always smiling
But on the inside, I can hear her saying…

“Lead me with strong hands
Stand up when I can’t
Don’t leave me hungry for love
Chasing dreams, what about us?

Show me you’re willing to fight
That I’m still the love of your life
I know we call this our home
But I still feel alone”

I see their faces, look in their innocent eyes
They’re just children from the outside
I’m working hard, I tell myself they’ll be fine
They’re in independent
But on the inside, I can hear them saying…

“Lead me with strong hands
Stand up when I can’t
Don’t leave me hungry for love
Chasing dreams, but what about us?

Show me you’re willing to fight
That I’m still the love of your life
I know we call this our home
But I still feel alone”

So Father, give me the strength
To be everything I’m called to be
Oh, Father, show me the way
To lead them
Won’t You lead me?

To lead them with strong hands
To stand up when they can’t
Don’t want to leave them hungry for love,
Chasing things that I could give up

I’ll show them I’m willing to fight
And give them the best of my life
So we can call this our home
Lead me, ’cause I can’t do this alone

Father, lead me, ’cause I can’t do this alone

The father/husband in the song relates that he’s working hard and telling himself his family will be fine, but really his wife and kids are looking to him to lead them. As husbands and fathers, we are called to be the spiritual leaders of our families and to show our wives and kids that they are the loves of our lives. The words really challenged me to be there for my wife. We are newbies when it comes to marriage, but I wanted to make sure of two things: (1) I turn to God to give me the strength, and (2) Misa can feel me there for her.

  1. Garrett-

I really love where your heart is – open to the awareness that your love and continued presence are a critical component to your relationship with Misa and to your children (when they come).

No relationship will flourish when left unattended which is equally true for our relationship with the Lord.

Lyrics of the song you quote are good ones to remember.
