Thoughts on Love Dare #1 (cont.)

Tonight in our Bible study we talked about the importance of compassion and forgiveness in a marriage. Too often we expect perfection out of our spouses and we fail to empathize with them. I know that I need to work on patience and reacting to Misha in a loving tone in situations when I initially may feel frustrated.

As we ended tonight’s study, each person affirmed his or her spouse by speaking about a specific event in which the spouse showed compassion or forgiveness. Not only did the exercise focus me on times when Misha showed compassion or forgiveness towards me, but, by me affirming her, it lifted her up.

“Therefore, as God’s chosen people, holy and dearly loved, clothe yourselves with compassion, kindness, humility, gentleness and patience. Bear with each other and forgive whatever grievances you may have against one another. Forgive as the Lord forgave you. And over all these virtues put on love, which binds them all together in perfect unity” (Colossians 3:12-14)
