Altering Our Lives

“We must alter our lives in order to alter our hearts, for it is impossible to live one way and pray another.”

William Law

Questions:

  1. How have you altered your life to alter your heart in prayer?
  2. What have you given up in order to receive?

  1. I must agree with Sandy, as I thought the same when I read this quote. I remain convinced that we cannot change our behavior until our heart is first changed by the transforming power of God through Christ Jesus. Jesus often spoke on the discrepancies between the attitude of the heart and the actions of the people (Mat.23:26). Paul also touched on this concept several times, saying in the second chapter of Romans that “true circumcision is of the heart.” The consequences of our heart’s condition leads to our subsequent behavior (Mat.15:18-20). I thank God that He has the power to clean and change our heart (Ezekiel 36:26)!

  2. As I consider that quote by Law, I have to wonder if it shouldn’t be the other way around:

“We must alter our hearts in order to alter our lives,” because a changed heart will make itself known by changing one’s life.

  3. I had never heard this quote before. It is awesome! As for the questions: I need more time to think on them and then answer them…more than I have right now.
